I first met with Kassandra at one event called AFPRO Entrepreneurship, Leadership & EXPO in 2014. She was visiting the Kiosk of UIBE project. I thought she was a little bit shy since she was not asking questions and just looking at the pamphlet not knowing that she will be the winner of the second place of UIBE’s business competition. So I started to pay attention to her and see in her a very dedicated entrepreneur who follows her goal no matter what and invest wisely her energy in growing her business. When she came up with a new idea something sparkling in her eyes told me that people should know about this concept. Today I’m proud to highlight her project and invite you to go and discover for yourself. But I will let her introduce us to her world…

Can you introduce yourself in a few words?

My name is Kassandra Kernisan. Can you describe your career as entrepreneur?

My career as an entrepreneur is exciting and fast-paced.  I’m extremely busy, having to multi-task often.  When building a business, at first you have to do a little bit of everything.  I’m an accountant, a marketing & PR professional, administrator, receptionist, instructor, consultant, strategist, janitor and more. It can be challenging, but it is also fulfilling to know that you’re capable of doing many different things.  I feel passionate and connected to what I do, so although it is a lot of work, I am happy doing it and I am very happy with my life. I get to do what I love and believe in, share it with others and make a living out of it.

What do your business project consist of (history, content and target audience)?

Studio Alkemy Yoga & Wellness is a multi-functional yoga, dance, fitness, wellness and creative studio with one common theme: positive transformation.  Launched in June 2015, we are located at 4978A, Queen Mary, Montreal, QC H3W 1X2. Our target audience is anyone who is interested in improving themselves whether spiritually, mentally, emotionally or physically. Conscious, open-minded and loving people are the type of people that the studio attracts.

Can you introduce us to the unique services or products (compared to the market) you are offering?

Studio Alkemy Yoga & Wellness is the ONLY studio in Montreal to offer Kemetic Yoga, which is based on the Ancient Egyptian practice and philosophy of yoga.  My team and I have created a unique space that has a warm ambiance, uplifting energy and a welcoming vibe that you don’t find at other studios.  It’s so palpable that the majority of our clients comment on the energy of the space, how great it feels and how welcome they feel in the space.

We also have a unique program of classes, wellness treatments and workshops, making this a studio that covers many aspects of wellness and creativity under one roof.

Is there something new coming that you want to share with us in advance?

We will be having an OPEN HOUSE day on Sunday, September 13th from 10am-7pm, offering all our classes for FREE all day and offering FREE samples of some of our wellness services, as well as other surprises.  It’s a good way for the community to get to know the space and what we have to offer.  For more info, please check out the Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/395055577352031/

What do you need to further develop your business project (partnership, resources or environment)?

I’m definitely open to partnership, provided that there are synergies and a similar vision for the company.  As far as resources, I am pursuing a couple of grants as well as small business loans, but so far the business is doing a pretty good job of sustaining itself at the size that we are at.  In order to expand and move forward, though, more resources will definitely be needed as well as a strong team of people in place to support the project.

Which advice can you provide to those who want to start a business?

You have to really believe in yourself and what you are doing.  Being an entrepreneur can be very lonely and discouraging at times. You should always be clear in your mission and when things get tough, constantly remind yourself why you started doing this in the 1st place.  Have faith and visualize where you want to be, not where you are.  Focusing on where you are will get you stuck there. Don’t focus on the things that don’t work out or the failures.  Always pick yourself back up after a fall and keep going.  Keep trying until you’ve exhausted all possibilities.  Perseverance and willpower are probably the 2 most important traits of a successful entrepreneur.  If you are the type to give up easily or get down on yourself for mistakes, entrepreneurship may not be for you. It’s important to stand firm in your mission.  Adapt and adjust where needed as you learn and grow, but your core mission should always remain the same.  If you’re in it for the money only, don’t bother.  You have to truly believe and be passionate about your business project.  The money may take a long time to come, but what will drive you in the beginning is your belief in your project and your passion.

What can you say to those already in business but who can hardly make it?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help and look into support resources.  There are a lot of good resources in Quebec for young entrepreneurs.  If your 1st formula isn’t working, do your research and try to pinpoint the reasons why.  Change what needs to be changed and come back stronger with a 2nd formula.  Keep going until you find the formula that works.

“Keep going until you find the formula that works” Thank you Kassandra for this important sentence. As we see Kassandra is a resilient female entrepreneur who is definitely bound to success. For those who are in Montreal you can already book your September 13th for the OPEN HOUSE. You will be able to meet in person Kassandra and discover Studio Alkemy Yoga & Wellness. Stay connected for other interviews…
